About Qingyang District

Qingyang District is located in the heart of Chengdu City. Chengdu’s 2,300-year history of founding traces its origins to Qingyang District. Since ancient times, it has been Chengdu’s political, economic and cultural center. Named after the famous Qingyang Taoist Temple within its jurisdiction, the district covers an area of 66 square kilometers, with 12 subdistricts, 67 communities and a service population of about 1.24 million.

A pleasant and livable environment

Situated in the superior position of Chengdu, Qingyang District boasts a sound ecological environment and beautiful urban landscapes. Qingyang offers a well-connected transport network: Chengdu West Railway Station and Chengdu-Ya’an Railway have been put into operation; 6 metro lines (Line 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9) passing Qingyang are in service; more than 160 bus routes provide fast and convenient connections in the district.

A treasure trove of cultural and tourism resources

With a profound cultural heritage, Qingyang District is home to numerous cultural museums and cultural and art groups. As a hub for over 70 percent of the historical and cultural resources in Chengdu’s downtown area, Qingyang houses many iconic destinations such as the Du Fu Thatched Cottage, the Jinsha Site, the Wide and Narrow Alley, and Wenshu Monastery. It has more than 410,000 pieces (sets) of state-owned movable cultural relics, ranking first in Sichuan Province. Qingyang also boasts 68 intangible cultural heritage items at provincial, municipal and district levels, 87 representative inheritors, and 43 cultural relic protection units, eclipsing other urban districts in Chengdu.

Abundant educational and healthcare resources

Qingyang District is home to renowned educational institutions like the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Chengdu Shishi High School, Chengdu Shude High School, and two of the best primary schools in Chengdu ‒ Chengdu Experimental Primary School and the Chengdu Paotongshu Primary School. It also houses major healthcare facilities, such as Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, The Third People Hospital of Chengdu, and Chengdu Women’s and Children’s Center Hospital.

A robust industrial foundation

Qingyang District has a comprehensive industrial system pillared by aviation, finance, culture and tourism, and commerce. Its economic output per unit area is among the highest in Chengdu. In 2022, it achieved a regional GDP of RMB149.64 billion or a GDP per square kilometer of RMB2.267 billion. Despite covering only 0.46 percent of Chengdu’s land area, it contributed approximately 7.2 percent to its regional GDP.

Exceptional overall quality

Qingyang District has been inscribed on the list of “China’s Top 100 Districts with High-Quality Development” and received the “China’s Leading Districts in Building Economy Development Award”. It was recognized as both a top district for international business environment and a district with the highest investment value in building economy in China. It also gained distinction as one of the first batch of “Famous Counties of Sichuan Tourism” and “Sichuan Provincial All-for-One Tourism Demonstration Area”. The Narrow and Wide Alley in the district was named one of the first batch of “National Demonstration Pedestrian Streets”.
