This report was prepared by the German Chamber of Commerce together with TÜV SÜD North Asia represents our pioneering effort to assess the current state of ESG practices among German companies operating in China. It dives into the ESG practices of 22 German companies in China, including prominent names such SAP, Wuerth and Covestro. By exploring ESG practices, the report aims to provide inspiration and actionable insights for the business community.

The report was unveiled on May 17, 2024 in Shanghai at the ESG Day, where members of the German Chamber's ESG Alliance as well as more interested parties had a chance to exchange about ESG-related topics. 

The ESG Alliance is an initiative by the German Chamber of Commerce in China. The Alliance brings together some of the best-known German companies in China, such as Volkswagen, SAP, Baiersdorf, Merck, and Boehringer Ingelheim, to provide a platform for demonstrating their ESG performance and commitment. Its purpose is to provide a platform for members to showcase their ESG performance and commitment, highlight sustainable practices and initiatives, and stay informed about industry trends. The Alliance also helps members establish meaningful relationships with partners and communicate with relevant government departments on ESG matters. By encouraging active involvement in sustainable development, the ESG Alliance is playing a vital role in advancing sustainable development practices across the country.
