Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA)
Overview
In 2019, the Yizhuang New Town (New E-Town) plan was approved, and the industrial space of BDA expanded to 225km2 from former 59.6 km2. The planned area of Yizhuang New Town is about 94 km2 within the administrative jurisdiction of Tongzhou and about 131 km2 within the administrative jurisdiction of Daxing District.
The Development Area has attracted over 20,000 enterprises from all over the world, and has gathered more than 90 Fortune Global 500 enterprises including Mercedes-Benz, ABB, Corning, Bayer, GE etc. We have also invested in 135 projects and formed 4 pillar industries including new generation IT, new energy and intelligent auto, biotechnology and big health, robotics and smart manufacturing. Besides, 158 companies with their annual output value reaching RMB100 million started their business in BDA.
In 2019, the regional GDP of BDA achieved 27 billion dollars with an increase of 8.9% year-on-year and the above-scale industrial output value reached 60 billion dollars, up 9% year-on-year.
Leading Industries
After 27 years of development, the Development Area has formed four leading industries, including the new-generation information technology, new-energy intelligent automobiles, biotechnology and general health, robots and intelligent manufacturing. BDA has developed two industrial clusters respectively in high-end automobiles and the Internet industry, with the value of each cluster exceeding RMB100 billion. Seven enterprises whose value reaches RMB10 billion have emerged from the Development Area.
Four leading Industries：
New-Generation Information Technology Industry
BDA has attracted a group of new-generation information technology enterprises that represent the highest science and technology level in China, and has formed an integrated circuit industry cluster led by SMIC, an up-to-date display industry cluster led by BOE and an Internet industry cluster led by JD.com.
In 2018, the cluster of new-generation information technology industry reported an output value of RMB85.2 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 18%. The Internet industry cluster reported a revenue of more than RMB500 billion.
Automobile Industry
So far BDA has formed a high-end automobile industrial cluster led by Beijing Benz and a new energy automobile industrial cluster led by BAIC BJEV.
In 2018, the automobile industry reported an output value of RMB172.3 billion, with a year-on- year increase of 14.4%.
Biotechnology and General Health Industry
More than 1,100 enterprises that operate in biotechnology and general health have entered BDA, covering ten sectors like high-end chemical preparations, biological medicines, traditional Chinese medicines, digital imaging diagnosis and treatment equipment. In 2018, the biotechnology and general health industrial cluster reported an output value of RMB46.6 billion with a year-on-year increase of 13%.
Representative enterprises include Bayer, GE Healthcare, Tong Ren Tang, Sanofi, Tide Pharmaceutical, Youcare Pharmaceutical, Pharmaron and Sino Biological.
Robots and Intelligent Equipment
There are more than 110 equipment enterprises above designated size. In 2018, the output value was recorded to be RMB 51 billion.
Representative enterprises: SMC pneumatic components, Goldwind Science & Creation, Schneider, ABB, Bosch Rexroth, Yaskawa, Harbin Institute of Technology, Instrumentation Technology and Economy Institute of China.
Three innovative service zones: Financial business district, ecological science and technology innovation district and smart logistics district.
Three characteristic industrial parks: Green Technology Industrial Park, Smart Car Supporting Industrial Park and Future Industrial Innovation Park.
Existing Enterprises
Until the end of 2019, BDA has gathered 26,000+ companies from 40+ countries, with a total investment of more than 100 billion US dollars, including 130+ investment projects from 90+ Fortune 500 companies such as Mercedes-Benz, ABB, Corning, GE, Bayer, etc.

BDA is the main front of Beijing's real economy, the only national economic development zone and an important engine for building a growth pole in southern Beijing.
Location Advantage
BDA is located in the southeast of the capital which is the hub of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development belt. It is 30 kilometers away from Beijing’s two large international hub airports-Capital International Airport and the newly built Beijing Daxing International Airport, and 150 kilometers away from Tianjin Port, the largest comprehensive port in northern China, with a complete urban rail transit system.

Since 2019, the four leading industries of BDA have gradually developed into a large-scale cluster. The new generation of information technology industry chains have become more complete, and the industry chains in frontier fields such as artificial intelligence have continued to develop. All of the development provides a strong guarantee and support for industrial upgrading and the implementation of high-tech industries.
Technology Advantages
As the main part of the "Three Cities and One District", BDA is becoming a base for undertaking the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of the three science cities and strives to play a frontier position and main role in building a "high-precision" city economic structure.
Ecological Advantages
From the year 2011 when BDA was approved as a national eco-industrial demonstration park, to the date when it became the only national green industrial demonstration park of Beijing in 2018, BDA has became the first national waste-free city of the construction plan. With the help of ecological advantages, it will create a green and livable waste-free city.
Policy Support
The Implementation Measures for Beijing Economic and Technological Devel opment Area to Promote the Development of High-end and Sophisticated Industry was issued. With accordance to the measures, a financial fund of RMB10 billion will be invested in the transformation of technological achievements, technological innovation and demonstration, innovative industrial clusters and development of top talents on an annual basis, so as to guide and stimulate the construction of high-end and sophisticated industry with the assistance of polices and introduce high-end and sophisticated enterprises.
Government Services
BDA has a "one - stop" administrative service center, which possesses municipal approval authority and provides personalized, professional and customized services for enterprises. There are also functional organizations ranging from industry and commerce, taxation, drug administration, public security, firefighting to bonded logistics. A public service platform for scientific and technological innovation in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei has been set up.
Living and Ecological Environment
BDA has promoted livable construction, providing high-quality commercial housing, housing with shared property rights, public rental housing for talents, employee apartments and other kinds of residences.
Seven large- scale green space projects of parks have been completed, covering an area of 18,000 hectares, with a regional green space coverage rate of 32%. Specifically, Beijing Nanhaizi Park is the largest wetland park in Beijing.
