New German Chamber Ticker online: Localization & Globalization (Fall 2021)

24/09/2021

Dear Readers,

Up until a few years ago, globalization was widely regarded as the knight in shining armor, paving the way for companies to wealth and growth and rescuing the world from economic silos. This ’90s buzzword had only few critics. It generally symbolized global supply chains, new means of communications, global capital flows, liberalization of markets, and so much more.

Fast forward to today, shifts in the geopolitical and economic landscape have initiated a movement inwards, which was accelerated by trade disputes and the COVID-19 pandemic. New terms such as “glocalization” or “slowbalization” emerged, trying to frame this new ‘not-so-global, not-entirely-local’ political climate. For companies, this new volatile world means constantly adapting strategies and transforming to confirm with everchanging regulations.

In this fall issue of the Ticker, we will explore many angles of globalization and localization, and China’s role in it. We will look into the cost of deglobalization; what new policies such as the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law hold in store for companies; how the IIT reform reinforces the localization of staff; and how the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership is shaping regional value chains. In our features section, Experts in Chinese law share recent legal developments and their impact on companies in China.

As always, please share, comment, discuss, offer suggestions, and contribute to our next editions of the German Chamber Ticker!

We hope you enjoy this issue!
