Current Trends in China
- Rising disposable incomes fuels demand for premium and imported food products. Since 2015, the average per capita disposable income has roughly doubled, creating new opportunities for high-quality international brands.
- Shifting consumption patterns have led to greater demand for animal-based products, dairy, fresh fruit, and vegetables. Domestic food production continues to expand, with an increasing emphasis on local manufacturing over imports. At the same time, vegetarian products and ready-to-eat meals are gaining popularity among younger, urban consumers.
- Health-conscious consumption is transforming purchasing behavior as consumers scrutinize ingredient labels more carefully. Products marketed as “additive-free” and “organic” are particularly favored.
- Private-label brands are capturing a growing market share, while online retail and e-commerce continue to experience strong and sustained growth. Marketing strategies increasingly integrate cultural and regional elements to enhance authenticity and brand relevance.
