The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’ visit to China was eagerly anticipated from the German business community.

This was an important occasion for us – we have been approached by media outlets and spoke about the current business sentiment among German companies in China - and what the business community expected from the visit.

Overall, the business environment has grown more complex: geopolitical tensions, global trade conflicts, fierce competition, price pressure, and export controls are just a few of the topics on the table.

From our resent Business Confidence Surveys, we are seeing strategic responses among German companies to this environment, such as partnerships with local peers to grow business, and increasing localization of R&D and production to remain competitive. We also discussed new business opportunities, including the international expansion of Chinese companies.

Government Affairs & Advocacy

We officially represent the interests of the German economy and German companies in China. For this, we regularly meet with Chinese governments to discuss key priorities of Sino-German business relations and improve the business environment for German companies in China. We evaluate China’s economic policy developments and provide practical guidance and orientation for German companies in an ever more complex environment. Additionally, we support German companies with individual government affairs cases.
