China and Germany are both witnessing robust growth in their energy storage markets. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Energy Administration (NEA) are accelerating the advancement of new energy storage technologies, aiming to build a clean, low‑carbon, safe, and efficient energy system. One of their key objectives is to promote the transition of new energy storage from the initial stage of commercialization to large‑scale development by 2025, while encouraging the exploration of diverse development models that address the different needs of power generation, grids, and end‑users.
At the same time, according to the latest assessment by the Institute for renewable energy (IWR), by July 2025 Germany have installed more than 2 million battery storage systems, with an installed capacity of around 2.1 GW and a storage capacity of 3.9 GWh, marking a new stage in the country;s energy transition. The continued expansion of the energy storage industry in both countries opens up significant potential for deeper collaboration and exchange between Chinese and German enterprises.
