Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND) - A Premier Hub for German & European Technology Collaboration

In 2025, its GDP reached CNY 271.971 billion (EUR 33.7 billion), total import and export volume hit CNY 451.9 billion (EUR 55.8 billion), and revenue from industries above designated size hitting CNY 660 billion (EUR 80.8 billion). The district has attracted a total of over USD 26.3 billion in foreign investment.

WND hosts nearly 1,900 foreign-invested enterprises, including 128 projects from 68 Fortune Global 500 companies. It is home to about 100 German enterprises, including Bosch, Siemens, and Infineon, many of which have upgraded from production bases to regional and global R&D hubs. German and European companies here operate under the “R&D center + local manufacturing” model, mainly in automotive components, intelligent equipment, and new energy sectors. In particular, Bosch boasts a software R&D team of over 1,000 people and runs several world-class R&D centers in WND, covering fuel cells, comfort technology, and software innovation. Siemens has also built an intelligent digital factory and innovation center for medium-voltage switchgear, realizing full integration of R&D and production in digitalization.

WND provides a professional English-German bilingual service team (around 40 people) and full-process agency services covering investment approval, environmental assessment, and construction permits. It offers tailored preferential policies in taxation, land use, R&D, and talent incentives, as well as comprehensive livability support including education, long-term work visas, healthcare, and recruitment. According to PwC’s 2024 assessment, WND scores 9 out of 10 across all key dimensions, demonstrating exceptional business environment and high investor satisfaction.

The district excels in local industrial resource matching. The government acts as an "industrial organizer," proactively connecting foreign companies with local supply chains and head clients through platforms like matchmaking events. Successful cases include facilitating pilot applications and securing long-term orders for European tech companies within the local ecosystem.

WND has a talent pool of 324,000 professionals, including 55,800 high-skill technicians. Wuxi is a top vocational education city in China, home to institutions like Wuxi Vocational Institute of Technology, Wuxi Vocational College of Science and Technology, and Wuxi Institute of Communications Technology, offering vast potential for collaboration with Germany's dual-education system.

WND enjoys a strategic location with Sunan Shuofang International Airport within the district and a 30-minute high-speed rail ride to Shanghai. It has a comprehensive bonded zone, high-quality ecological environment and complete “9 Connections & 1 Leveling” infrastructure, enabling enterprises to start construction quickly after land acquisition.

The government has shifted from a regulator to a proactive service provider, maintaining high business environment satisfaction. The China-Europe Industrial Innovation Zone further strengthens WND’s role as a core platform for Sino-European technological and industrial cooperation.
