TAICANG OVERVIEW
Taicang is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, located in the Yangtze River Delta, bordering Shanghai and facing the Yangtze River. The city covers 810 km² with a population of 1.03 million. It hosts a national development zone, a national comprehensive bonded zone, a national first-class port, a national logistics and shipping hub and a provincial high-tech zone. In 2024, Taicang Port completed a container throughput of 8.318 million TEUs, ranking 20th globally.
LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION
Taicang is the closest county-level city to the center of Shanghai. The city has developed a “5+1” rail transit network, significantly enhancing its connectivity with Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region. Currently, over 60 daily train services connect Taicang to Shanghai, with a travel time of around 20 minutes. Additionally, the upcoming intercity railway project Minhang-Jiading-Taicang Line will further enhance the connectivity, allowing seamless transfers to over 10 Shanghai metro lines.

SINO-GERMAN COOPERATION
In 1993, the first German-funded enterprise KERN-LIEBERS came to Taicang, which started Taicang’s in-depth cooperation with Germany. Today, Taicang has gathered more than 550 German enterprises, becoming one of the regions with the most intensive investment and highest development level of German enterprises in China. Most German enterprises in Taicang are in the precision manufacturing industry, and many of them have completed several rounds of capital increase and production expansion. More and more German enterprises have established R&D centers and regional headquarters in Taicang.
PREFERENTIAL POLICIES & GOVERNMENT SERVICES
Taicang provides exclusive incentives for German projects, including rewards for foreign investment and reinvestment of profits, financial support for R&D and innovation etc. The city maintains direct communication with key government agencies, ensuring efficient support for businesses. With 32 years of experience working with German enterprises, Taicang offers full-time comprehensive consulting services in foreign languages for projects. For key projects, there will be a dedicated project coordination team, which assists with investment approvals, environmental and energy-saving evaluations etc., coordinating with government departments and local resources to address any issues.
HUMAN RESOURCES
Taicang has a robust talent reserve, focusing on young and skilled workers. Since 2001 the city has integrated the German dual-system vocational training model into its education system, which has provided over 10,000 managerial and technical talents. It is home to the first AHK Academy in China as well. Additionally, two universities—Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University Taicang Campus and Northwestern Polytechnical University Taicang Campus—provide a steady supply of high-end talents to local enterprises.
