Caidian District, Wuhan
With an area of 1,093.17 km2 and a permanent population of 622,900, it is the first provincial ecological zone in Wuhan. Two national cooperation platforms – Sino-French Wuhan Ecological Demonstration City and Sino-German Wuhan International Industrial Park – are located here.
Caidian Economic Development Zone (Sino-German Wuhan International Industrial Park)
Situated at the intersection of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, and G318 National Highway, Caidian Economic Development Zone is a provincial development zone located in Caidian District close to Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone with a total planning area of 100 km2, serving as a core part of “China’s Capital of Motor”. With excellent supporting conditions, the regional topography of Caidian Economic Development Zone is characterized by hilly land, and the availability of water, electricity, road, phone, TV, bus, broad band, and land leveling of the project have been fully completed. Many universities and vocational schools have been built around it, with a workforce of over 200,000. Within a radius of 20 km, there are hospitals such as Tongji Hospital Sino-French New City Branch, Union Jiangbei Hospital, and Wuhan Changfu Hospital, and within a radius of 10 km, there are hotels such as Liantou Peninsula Hotel & Resort, Hilton Wuhan Riverside, and InterContinental Wuhan. It is also adjacent to a small European-style town named Ville Des Fleurs and a 110 km suburban greenway around Houguan Lake.
Caidian Economic Development Zone is generally oriented toward four strategic industries, including automobiles and auto parts, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and smart home, and promotes the medium- and high-end upgrading of automobiles and auto parts, electronic displays, equipment manufacturing, etc. There are over 360 industrial enterprises settled here, including Gree, OPPEIN, Man Wah, Denso, Siemens, Jingdong, Faurecia, Webasto, Busch, BorgWarner, TPV, Makino, Unipres, Metal One, Topre, Okamoto, and Cooper Standard. Additionally, there are 70 foreign-funded enterprises in the Sino-German Wuhan International Industrial Park, such as Stant, Domino's Pizza, and Autoneum Group, including 15 German-funded enterprises.
On September 7, 2019, former German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel visited Wuhan and attended the completion and launch ceremony of Webasto Wuhan in Caidian, and a discussion was carried out between Wuhan and the German delegation on building the Sino-German Wuhan International Industrial Park in Caidian District. Sino-German Wuhan International Industrial Park is located in the core of Caidian Economic Development Zone, with a planned area of 20 km2, including an existing construction area of 5 km2, an expansion area of 12 km2, and a supporting area of 3 km2. It mainly develops in the industrial directions of auto parts, equipment manufacturing, and electronic appliances, with the purpose of building a highland of industrial-technological innovation and a leading open platform. It aims to further improve the Sino-German regular cooperation and coordination mechanism, create a window for the Sino-German international exchange, and continuously attract investment and talents from overseas. Many German-funded projects have settled in the park, such as the leading German automobile sunroof manufacturer Webasto with its largest factory globally, Siemens Industrial Internet Enabling Center, Busch Vacuum Equipment Asia Pacific Production Base, Thermoplus Environment Technology High-end Heat Pump R&D Center, Schlemmer Auto Parts Production Base, Osann’s Second Global Headquarters and R&D, and Sino-German Industry-Education Integration Innovation Center of Rhein-Koester Central China, etc.
