CNZ covers an administrative area of 138 km2. It boasts the first national-level university science park among county-level cities and the only United World Colleges (UWC) in mainland China. In 2025, the regional GDP of CNZ reached CNY 53.54 billion.
Industry Foundation
CNZ is the main area for Changshu city's economic development. The region focuses on 4 pillar industries including automotive components, intelligence manufacturing, new electronic information, and high-end service industries. It also actively plans emerging industries such as new energy, life and health, new materials, low-altitude economy, and artificial intelligence. Currently, there are thousands of enterprises from more than 20 countries and regions that have invested in CNZ, including 42 German enterprises such as Continental, Mahle, Heraeus, Karcher etc. 59 projects were invested by 38 Fortune 500 companies such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Continental etc. In 2025, the total output value of industries above designated scale was CNY 138.48 billion, an increase of 8.3%, of which the output value of the automotive industry above designated scale was CNY 61.10 billion with over 90 tier 1 suppliers and 150 more tier 2 & 3 suppliers, accounting for 44.1% of the total output. In recent years, CNZ has focused on introducing the life and health industry, represented by Intellective, Mölnlycke and Memmert. Covering fields such as one-stop bio-pharmaceutical CDMO and targeted reagents. The CNZ Administrative Approval Bureau provides services including investment approval, environmental protection approval and other relevant services to facilitate various projects.
Living Facilities
CNZ have arranged supportive facilities such as schools, hospitals, commercial complexes, and sports facilities. The area boasts high-end industrial innovation parks such as UWC+ Innovation Island and Low-Carbon Digital Industrial Park. It also features premium educational resources like the United World Colleges (UWC), CWA Shihua School, Suzhou University of Technology, and Lunhua Foreign Language School. Additionally, there are global medical institutions like Hygeia Hospital, as well as five-star hotels including Nikko and Hyatt Hotel. High-end residential and commercial facilities have been built, such as Aranya Community and the landmark commercial complex Aeon Mall. Furthermore, more tourism and sport events are organized in CNZ, such as the Shajiabang 5A-level tourist resort.
