Annual Report 2024

Published on March 31, 2025

2024 was another dynamic year for the Sino-German business community, marked by both opportunities and challenges. Amid soft demand and intense competition, German companies faced a complex operating environment. Yet, new prospects emerged, which German firms have adeptly leveraged. As Chinese companies become increasingly innovative in their respective fields, the business environment has also become much more competitive. While our German member companies believe they can continue to be successful in the changing landscape, the level playing field for all the players is paramount.

Throughout these developments, the German Chamber of Commerce in China remained a vital platform for meaningful dialogue and exchange. We strengthened our role as a connector, fostering a more integrated and supportive ecosystem for our members and friends of the Chamber.

The year was marked by landmark events, including the Xceleration Days in Beijing, Xplore China in Chongqing, our Dialogue series, and the much-anticipated German Ball in Beijing and Shanghai. In total, we hosted nearly 300 events, engaging our 2,000 members and the broader community. Additionally, we participated in approximately 100 meetings with central and local Chinese government officials to advocate for the interests of German companies.

A significant milestone was the visit of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in April, which brought the competitiveness of German companies in China and related policies to the forefront of bilateral discussions. This visit helped deepen understanding of our members’ priorities in both China and Germany. In June, we proudly celebrated the 30th anniversary of AHK Greater China in Shanghai, highlighted by a keynote speech from Dr. Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Our publications also stood out as a cornerstone of our work. From the well-established Business Confidence Survey and Labor Market & Salary Report to new initiatives like the ESG Report, we released 50 publications to guide our members through the complexities of the Chinese business landscape. For the first time, our media and communications efforts reached over 1 billion people, amplifying the voices of our members and enhancing their visibility.

Looking ahead, the German Chamber of Commerce in China remains committed to supporting our members’ business needs, advocating for a fair and equitable business environment, and driving innovation and growth. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your trust and collaboration and look forward to achieving even greater milestones together in 2025 and beyond.
