Opening on May 15th at the Haus der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Berlin

Within the context of the 12th Asia-Pacific Weeks Berlin (APW), taking place from May 15 -18, 2017, European and Asian experts from economics, politics and society discuss innovation and digitalization, from Industry 4.0 to Fintech and eHealth.

May 15, 3.00 pm, Opening of the APW and conference ‘Asia-Europe: Joining Forces in the 4th Industrial Revolution’
Ramona Pop (Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises), Dirk Wiese (Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) and Sutanto Soehadho (Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Industry, Trade and Transportation) will open this year’s APW. The following conference addresses the rise of Industry 4.0, transformational changes in mobility, logistics and of data availability as elements of the on-going ‘digital revolution’ of industrial systems. While the ‘4th Industrial Revolution’ is largely shaped by the advanced economies, Asia, with more than 55% of the world’s internet users and a rapid ascent of smartphone penetration, will define the world’s mobile internet. Simultaneously, the German economy claims a leading role in an effort to become leading suppliers and user of industry 4.0 solutions and products.

On the first day of the Asia-Pacific Weeks, high level experts and managers from Asia and Europe will raise important questions of Industry 4.0 and discuss them from various perspectives:

Will Europe and Asia complement each other or will a competitive scenario dominate the newly emerging industrial order? How can Asia and Europe join their forces in order to jointly benefit from the 4th industrial revolution? In how far will the fourth industrial revolution affect employment? Will it lead to reshoring in Europe and how will it influence the development of manufacturing throughout Asia?
