Thursday, 3 December, 5:00 p.m.: the first cargo flight operated by China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd., China's largest airline, took off from Shanghai for Frankfurt. To mark the occasion, Lai Jun LUO, Senior Vice President Cargo, and Dr. Peter Kreutzberger, German Vice-Consul General in Shanghai, addressed the growing trade relations between Germany and China and the importance of FrankfurtRhineMain as a logistics centre in front of about 100 guests. Frankfurt airport, which is Europe’s largest air cargo hub, was a preferred gateway for Chinese merchandise and, increasingly, direct Chinese investments.
“We are delighted to register a growing number of Chinese airlines offering (direct) flight connections to China. Even now, Frankfurt offers the best choice of flight connections from Europe to China, with 59 cargo and 77 passenger flights to six cities each week. This is an important and convincing argument in favour of the FrankfurtRhineMain region for the investment decisions of Chinese companies“, according to Bertram Roth, Director China, FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH, Shanghai Liaison Office, who was one of the guests of honour at the festive event in Shanghai.
FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH is currently advising China Southern Airlines on setting up a branch office in Frankfurt. In addition to China Southern Airlines, Air China, China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Dragon Air already operate representative offices in Frankfurt.
