In order to accelerate the development of new energy industry and to establish the Chengdu (National) New Energy Hi-tech Industry Base, Chengdu is focusing on the development of key technologies of solar, nuclear, and wind power and their core supporting parts. A further focus lies on the application of new energy to the production of automobiles and semiconductor illumination equipment. The Chengdu New Energy Industry Development Plan (2009~2012) has been stipulated by the CPC Chengdu Committe and Chengdu Municipality in order to guide the development .
Shuangliu County of Chengdu has taken this opportunity to set up a new energy industry base, occupying an area of 2.1 square kilometers with photovoltaic industry as its backbone. 53 projects have so far been settled in the base involving Tianwei New Energy, Apollo Solar, Hanergy Holding Group, Xinguang Silicon, Hi-tech Wealth, etc. with the total contracted investment of over 41billion RMB, among which 19 projects are in photovoltaic industry with the contracted investment of over 30billion RMB. Additional three zones will be set up as supporting development areas for the other focal industries.
